History Statement of Intent
Through finding out about how and why the world, our country, culture and local community have developed over time, children understand how the past influences the present. History enables children to develop a context for their growing sense of identity and a chronological framework for their knowledge of significant events and people.
We have carefully designed our History curriculum so that children gain this knowledge as they progress through the school. As the children develop their historical understanding of the world in which we live, this can influence their decisions about personal choices, attitudes and values enabling them to be thoughtful, caring and compassionate citizens.
Key aims linked to our intent
Our vision for historical study is an approach, which will enable our pupils to achieve the following aims:
Acquire a deep-rooted historical knowledge of the local context of Clyst St George and Exeter as well as an informed view of key events, places and people that have proved historically significant within Britain and the wider Global community over time.
Demonstrate the ability to analyse and interpret the lasting impact made by different ancient civilisations throughout human history.
Establish a secure understanding of core historical concepts including chronology, continuity and change, cause and consequence and historical interpretation.
Communicate confidently their understanding of key events, people and places using accurate historical terminology to draw connections and comparisons.
