Lady Seaward's were visited this week by Lucy, a volunteer from St Petrock’s who explained how the food that had been collected by the school over the Harvest Festival would help the homeless around Exeter. She explained to the children the difficulties faced by the homeless within the region as well as showing the typical belongings a homeless person would carry with them which included basic survival items such as a sleeping bag, spare clothes, a reading book and sometimes dog food. Lucy explained to the pupils that homeless people can often feel lonely and scared but that St Petrock’s provide these people with a place to keep warm, be given hot food and also meet other people who can help them. The pupils across Key stage 2 have been exploring the work carried out by different charities in support of the homeless around Exeter and intend to raise further collections and promote greater awareness across the wider community.
