Statement of Intent - Art

At Lady Seaward’s VA C of E Primary School, we value Art and Design as an important part of the children’s entitlement to a broad and balanced curriculum.  Art and Design provides the children with the opportunities to develop and extend skills and express their individual interests, thoughts and ideas.  The focus is in developing proficiency in drawing, painting, understanding colour, shade and sculpture (line, tone, texture, colour, pattern, shape, 3D form), with the overall aim of developing a rigorous understanding, critical awareness and inspiration of art and design.  Children will develop their understanding through effective teaching and an accessible and engaging curriculum that comprises of carefully thought out sequences of lessons and experiences.  Children will learn how art and design reflects and shapes our history and contributes to the culture, creativity and wealth of our world.
